『鋼の錬金術師』で、亡き母を生き返らせようとした人体錬成が失敗した直後、床に倒れたエドは自分の左足がひざから下ごと消え、弟アルの姿もないことに気づいて、こう叫ぶ。錬成の代価として「真理」に体を奪われたのである。このあとエドは、右腕と引きかえにアルの魂を鎧に定着させる。
In Fullmetal Alchemist, the moment the Elric brothers' human transmutation to bring back their dead mother goes wrong, Edward is thrown to the floor and finds that his left leg below the knee is gone, and that his brother Alphonse has vanished too. Clutching his leg, he cries out this line. Right after, he binds Al's soul to a suit of armor, paying with his right arm.
文化的な背景：
