In the 1993 Super Famicom remake Dragon Quest I & II, the story of DQII opens with the archfiend Hargon's army attacking Moonbrooke Castle. The King of Moonbrooke sends the princess toward the stairs to escape and fights the invading monsters with spells, but he is struck from behind, falls into the flames and lets out this scream.

SFC版『ドラゴンクエストI・II』の『II』冒頭で、ハーゴンの軍勢に襲われたムーンブルク王が、王女を逃がして呪文で魔物と戦うが、背後から攻撃されて炎の中に倒れ、こう叫ぶ。1987年のファミコン版には、この襲撃場面はない。
Cultural Context:
In the 1987 Famicom original, the attack was only told by a wounded soldier who reached Lorasia; the SFC remake added this scene. A strangely comic scream for a king, it became a well-known joke among fans. In the 2025 HD-2D remake the cry was changed to 「ぐぉぉぉぉー！！」, and some fans said they missed the old one. It may also be shouted, half-jokingly, when something terrible happens.
