In Fullmetal Alchemist (manga chapter 5; episode 4 of the 2009 anime), State Alchemist Shou Tucker says this to Edward. Tucker shows the brothers a new chimera that can speak. Ed asks when Tucker became a State Alchemist and when his wife left; both were two years ago. Then he asks where Tucker's daughter Nina and her dog Alexander went, and Tucker answers with this, admitting he used them to make the chimera.

Cultural Context:

It is known as one of the darkest scenes in the series. On the Japanese internet, it became a joke template: a short story of innocent questions that slowly reveals a hidden truth, ending with this line as the punchline. It may also be said, half-jokingly, when someone guesses something you wanted to hide.
