Scene in the Original Work:

Near the end of the film, Hina, a "sunshine girl" who could clear the sky by praying, has vanished into the sky. Hodaka runs from the police to a small shrine on the roof of an abandoned building. He prays, is lifted high into the sky, and finds Hina above the clouds. When she says the weather will go wrong again if she goes back, Hodaka shouts this, takes her hand, and they fall back to the ground together.

Cultural Context:

Weathering With You is Makoto Shinkai's 2019 anime film about Hodaka, a 16-year-old who runs away from his island home to Tokyo. Shinkai has said the film started from the idea of a boy shouting this line, and that he wanted to tell a story where the boy himself chooses a "crazy world". The ending, where he chooses one girl over clear skies for everyone, sparked debate among viewers. It may also be used, half-jokingly, when you put someone you love before everything else.
