In the 1998 film Pokémon: The First Movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo learns that he was only cloned from Mew to be a tool for humans, and destroys the Team Rocket base. He then flies to the ruins of the lab on New Island where he was created, and declares this in a monologue full of rage at his creators.
