Original Scene & Cultural Context

Scene in the Original Work:

In Attack on Titan, at the opening ceremony of the training corps, instructor Keith Shadis finds Sasha munching a potato while standing in line. When he asks what she is holding in her right hand, she proudly gives this answer and admits she took it from the kitchen. Asked why she is eating it now, she says it would be a waste if it went cold, and finally offers him half. As punishment, she is made to run for hours.
