In Kamen Rider Kabuto, Soji Tendo, who calls himself "the man who walks the path of heaven and rules over all", says this after easily beating up a gang of bank robbers. As always, he starts with "Grandma said..." and uses one of her sayings to explain why the criminals were bound to fail.
Tendo often raises his index finger toward the sky and begins with "Grandma said...", and fans call his sayings "Tendo Goroku" (Tendo's quotes). This one plays on the old phrase 悪の栄えたためしなし ("evil has never prospered"), adding a cook's point of view. People may also use "Grandma said..." half-jokingly to introduce their own little life rule.
•「言っていた」= "used to say": something said again and again in the past. •「飯屋」= casual word for a simple restaurant. •「〜たためしはない」= "there has never been a case of ~".
ためし here means "a past case, a precedent", not "a try" as in 試しにやってみる. 〜たためしがない is a set pattern meaning "has never once happened".
