In episode 19, Amuro, who has left White Base with the Gundam, meets Ramba Ral at a restaurant in a desert town. After fighting Ral, he comes back to the ship with Ryu, who came to get him. Bright tells him breaking discipline is a crime, and he is locked in a cell. Alone, Amuro mutters this line, remembers being told he won only thanks to the Gundam's performance, and says he wants to beat that man.
