原作での使用シーン・文化的な背景

使用シーン:

テレビアニメのオープニングで、物語の紹介のあと、コナン自身が視聴者に向けて「たったひとつの真実見抜く」と語り、このセリフで締める。コナンは、毒薬を飲まされて体が子供になってしまった高校生探偵・工藤新一。1996年の第31話から使われている。
In the opening of the TV anime, after a short look at the story, Conan himself speaks to the viewers: "Seeing through the one and only truth..." and ends with this line. Conan is high school detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrank to a child's after he was given a poison drug. The line has been used since episode 31 (1996).

文化的な背景:

「子供の体に大人の頭脳」という作品の設定を、短い対句で言い表した口上。第30話までは「真実はいつもひとつ!」で締めており、映画版の冒頭では別の言い回しが使われる。大人びた子供を冗談でほめるときや、逆に「見た目は大人、頭脳は子供」と子供っぽい大人をからかうときに使うこともある。
The line sums up the idea of the whole series in two short parallel phrases: a child's body with an adult's mind. Up to episode 30 the opening ended with 「真実はいつもひとつ!」 instead, and the movies open with different words. It may also be used as a joke about a child who talks like an adult, or turned around, as in 「見た目は大人、頭脳は子供」, to tease an adult who acts childish.

英訳文法・学習のポイント

英訳文法のポイント

•「見た目」は外から見た姿。•「頭脳」は頭の働きや知能を表す硬い言葉。•「AはB、CはD」の対句で、「だ」が省略されている。•「その名は」は「その人の名前は」。
•「見た目」= appearance, how someone looks. •「頭脳」= brains, intellect (a formal word). •「AはB、CはD」= two parallel phrases with だ left out. •「その名は」= his name is.

英訳の注意ポイント

「頭脳」は頭の働きや知能のことで、体の器官としては普通「脳」と言う。また「AはB、CはD」と「だ」を省く形は、普段の会話よりキャッチコピーらしく響く。
頭脳 means a person's mind or intelligence; the brain as a body part is usually 脳. Also, dropping だ as in AはB、CはD sounds like a catchy slogan, not everyday speech.
