Original Scene & Cultural Context
Scene in the Original Work:
In episode 4 of the first season, Suzaku is accused of murdering Prince Clovis and is being taken to a military court. Zero appears, claims that he killed Clovis, and rescues Suzaku. Alone with him afterwards, Zero asks Suzaku to join him and fight Britannia. Suzaku refuses, says he will change Britannia from within into a country worth something, and adds this line. Then he goes back to face his trial.

第1期第4話。クロヴィス殺害の犯人にされたスザクは、軍事法廷へ送られる途中、自分が殺したと名乗り出たゼロに救い出される。二人きりになると、ゼロはブリタニアと戦う仲間になれと誘う。スザクは断り、ブリタニアを中から価値のある国に変えると言って、こう続ける。そして裁判を受けるために戻っていく。
Cultural Context:
Suzaku Kururugi is Lelouch's childhood friend, a Japanese man who became an Honorary Britannian and joined the Britannian army. At this point he does not know that Zero is Lelouch. Lelouch chases results by any means, while Suzaku insists on the right method, and this clash runs through the whole story. Behind his belief is a secret: as a child, he killed his own father, Prime Minister Genbu Kururugi, hoping to stop the war. Later, in R2, he comes to say 「必要なものは結果だ」 (What matters is results), and fans often compare the two lines. It may also be used to turn down a shortcut such as cheating.

Grammar & Learning Points
Grammar Point
•「間違った」= wrong (past form of 間違う, used before a noun). •「方法で」= by a method (で = means). •「手に入れる」= to obtain, to get hold of. •「結果に、価値はない」= there is no value in the result (は contrasts and stresses ない). •「〜と思うから」= because I think ~; the sentence ends with the reason.
日本語で読む
•「間違った」は「間違う」の過去形で、名詞を修飾して「正しくない」の意味。•「方法で」の「で」は手段を表す。•「手に入れる」は自分のものにすること。•「結果に、価値はない」の「は」は対比を示し、否定を強める。•「〜と思うから」は理由を表し、文が理由で終わっている。
Trap for English Speakers
間違った here means "wrong, unjust", not an honest mistake. Ending a sentence with から (because) is common in speech when the main point was said just before, so it is not an unfinished sentence. 手に入れた and 得た are close in meaning, but 得た sounds more formal.
日本語で読む
ここの「間違った」は、うっかりした「間違い」ではなく「正しくない、不正な」という意味。直前に言ったことの理由として「〜から」で文を終えるのは話し言葉でよくあり、言いかけの文ではない。「手に入れた」と「得た」は意味が近いが、「得た」の方が硬い響きになる。
