伊賀から東京にやって来て、少年ケンイチの家で暮らす忍者ハットリくん。「〜でござる」という武士のような言葉づかいとともに、話の終わりや、忍法を使うときなどに「ニンニン」と言う。
Hattori-kun, a young ninja from Iga, comes to Tokyo and lives with the boy Kenichi. Along with his samurai-style 「〜でござる」, he adds "nin-nin" at the end of what he says, or when he uses his ninja techniques.
文化的な背景：
一つの場面のセリフではなく、作品を通した口ぐせ。アニメでハットリくんを演じた堀絢子のアドリブから生まれ、のちに原作漫画でも使われるようになった。インドなど海外でも人気の作品。「では、また明日。ニンニン」のように、忍者らしいあいさつとしてふざけて使うこともある。
This is a catchphrase used throughout the series, not a line from one single scene. It began as an ad-lib by Junko Hori, who voiced Hattori in the anime, and was later used in the manga too. The series is also popular abroad, for example in India. It may be used as a playful ninja-style sign-off, as in 「では、また明日。ニンニン」.
