The drama aired on Fuji TV in 1993, based on Fumi Saimon's manga. Takuya Kimura, then 20 and not yet a top star, played Toride, and this scene became so famous that hugging someone from behind came to be called あすなろ抱き (the Asunaro hug). It may also be used, half-jokingly, when offering yourself for a job someone is looking to fill.
