In the TV anime Sazae-san, Nakajima, Katsuo's classmate and best friend, calls out to him from outside the Isono house or on the way home from school and invites him to play baseball. Nakajima appears only in the anime, not in the original manga.

This is known as Nakajima's signature line, and the form 「おーい磯野、野球しようぜ!」 is how most people remember it. Some fans say they have hardly ever heard this exact sentence on TV, so it may be a fixed image that built up over the years, much like the wording of other famous misquotes. Even so, almost every Japanese person recognizes it. People may also use it as a joke when inviting a friend, changing the name or the activity, as in 「おーい〇〇、△△しようぜ!」.

•「磯野」= Katsuo's family name; boys often call friends by their family name. •「しよう」= let's do (volitional form of する). •「ぜ」= a rough, casual ending used mostly by boys and men.

ぜ sounds rough and boyish. Do not use it with teachers, bosses or people you just met; say 野球しませんか instead. 野球行こうぜ (let's go play baseball) is also natural Japanese.
