原作第94話。神野でヴィランのオール・フォー・ワンと戦ったオールマイトは、最後の力で「ユナイテッド・ステイツ・オブ・スマッシュ」を放ち勝利する。その様子がテレビで生中継される中、彼はカメラを指さしてこのセリフを言う。世間はヴィランへの警告と受け取るが、中継を見ていた出久は自分へのメッセージだと気づき、涙を流す。
Cultural Context:
The line has two meanings: to villains, "you're next to be caught", and to Izuku, "next, you are the one who carries on as the Symbol of Peace". All Might used up the last of One For All in this battle and ends his work as a hero. The chapter is titled 「師弟のメッセージ」, and the subtitle of the 2024 film "My Hero Academia: You're Next" comes from this scene. It may also be used as a joke when passing the microphone at karaoke.

ヴィランには「次に捕まるのはお前だ」、出久には「次の平和の象徴は君だ」という二つの意味を持つセリフ。オールマイトはこの戦いでワン・フォー・オールの残り火を使い果たし、ヒーローとしての活動を終える。この回のタイトルは「師弟のメッセージ」で、2024年の映画『僕のヒーローアカデミア THE MOVIE ユアネクスト』の副題もこの場面に由来する。カラオケでマイクを渡すときなどに、冗談で使うこともある。
Grammar & Learning Points
Grammar Point
•「次」= next. •「は」= topic marker: "as for next". •「君」= you. •「だ」= plain "is". • Literally "As for next, it is you."
日本語で読む
•「次」はこの後の順番。•「は」は話題を示す助詞。•「君」は二人称。•「だ」は断定。•直訳すると「次(の番)は君である」。
Trap for English Speakers
次は君だ does not say what you are next for, so it can mean "you're next to be caught" or "you're next to take over". Japanese often leaves words out and lets the context decide the meaning, and this scene plays with exactly that.
日本語で読む
「次は君だ」は何の番かを言っていないので、「次に捕まるのは君」とも「次を継ぐのは君」とも取れる。日本語は言葉を省き、文脈で意味が決まることが多く、この場面はまさにそれを生かしている。
