Original Scene & Cultural Context

Scene in the Original Work:

Ponyo, a fish girl, licked blood from Sosuke's cut finger and began to speak human words. Taken back under the sea by her father Fujimoto, who forbids her to become human, she shouts this at him, followed by "Ponyo will become human!" Then arms and legs sprout from her body, and she starts to change into a near-human form.

Cultural Context:

The short words of a small child show love at its most direct. At the voice recording, director Hayao Miyazaki is said to have praised the pause between 宗介 and 好き. Since Ponyo loves ham in the film, the line may also be twisted as a joke, like 「ポニョ、ハム好き!」, to say you love something.
