原作での使用シーン・文化的な背景

使用シーン:

第1部「ファントムブラッド」。ジョナサンを憎むディオは、ジョナサンが想いを寄せるエリナに無理やりキスをする。その様子を見ていたディオの取り巻きたちが「さすがディオ!おれたちにできない事を平然とやってのけるッ」と盛り上がり、このセリフで締めくくる。
Part 1, Phantom Blood. Dio, who hates Jonathan, forcibly kisses Erina, the girl Jonathan likes, to hurt him. Dio's cronies watching the scene cheer: "As expected of Dio! He calmly does what we could never do!" and end with this line.

文化的な背景:

作中では卑劣な行いを褒めたたえているところが、どこか滑稽なセリフ。ネットでは「さすがディオ!」からの一連の流れが、ほかの人ならためらうような大胆なことをやってのけた人をたたえる定番のネタになっている。ふつうは冗談として、半分皮肉を込めて使われる。
In the story, it is praise for a terrible act, which makes it a little comic. On the internet, the whole line from 「さすがディオ!」 is a well-known meme for praising someone who does something bold that others would not dare to do. It is usually used as a joke, and often half-sarcastically.

英訳文法・学習のポイント

英訳文法のポイント

•「そこ」は直前の行いを指す。•「シビれる」は本来「しびれる」で、強い感動で体がふるえるような気持ち。•「あこがれる」は理想として強く心をひかれること。•小さい「ゥ」は語尾を伸ばして芝居がかった響きを出す表記。
•「そこ」= that point (the thing just done). •「シビれる」= to be thrilled (lit. "to go numb"). •「あこがれる」= to admire, to long for. •「ゥ」= a small kana that stretches the end for a dramatic effect.

英訳の注意ポイント

「しびれる」はもともと足がしびれるような「感覚がなくなる」意味だが、くだけた言い方では「強く感動する」という意味になる。カタカナで書くと、より大げさで漫画らしい響きになる。
シビれる literally means "to go numb", as with a leg falling asleep. In casual speech it means "to be thrilled" or "to be deeply impressed". Writing it in katakana makes it sound more dramatic and manga-like.
